August 18, 2010, Pasture Tree

Here is the painting created today.  It is oil on canvas panel, 4 inches by 6 inches.

In August the pastures and fields turn a golden color. Harvesting creates a dusty haze around the edges of the valley.  In pastures, the cattle graze under trees creating this lollipop shape where the lower branches are animal-trimmed.  Often small fences are built around the trunk to protect the trees.  Shelter belts of trees and shrubs protect the land from erosion and from the snow drifting winds.
