August 20, 2010, The Old Birdhouse

This is the painting created today.  The first birdhouse I put up over 20 years ago is in a secluded corner.  The wood of the entry is chipped away by many years of nesting birds.  Around the birdhouse are the red-brown leaves of the chokecherry tree and a thick hedge of lilacs.

The shadows of twigs and branches made an interesting pattern cast over the birdhouse today.  You can see the shaft of a blade of dry grass casting a shadow out of the birdhouse door, left behind by a long gone occupant. aliceflynn.com

The painting is oil on canvas, 3 inches by 3 inches.  Click on the image to see a close-up.
