The Biggest Full Moon In 18 Years

In our valley, ringed by ranges of the rocky mountains, we have dramatic sunsets and moonrises.  I did this painting, titled Sunset Moonrise, inspired by the way the setting sun in the west lights up the Bridger mountains with pink alpenglow, while the full moon rises.  The moon-faced girl is very aware of the moon behind her shoulder.

This weekend, don’t miss seeing the full perigee moon.  It will look largest at the horizon and will be 31,000 miles closer to the earth than when it is at its farthest (the apogee).  At sunset tomorrow night, look to the east to see the big, bright moon rising.
