Uncle Pete Flynn and the haystacks

My uncle Pete has been an inspiration for a number of my paintings and drawings.  Here I placed him as a young man in a field I imagined from the Montana landscape.

He was a veteran of WWI and a survivor of working in the Pennsylvania coal mines.  There are certain poses and expressions he had, as well as the caps and hats he wore, that I find to be very typical of a 20th century working man.
