The Western tanager migration through Montana in the spring is one of my favorite experiences in bird watching every year.
As part of my watercolor nature series, this painting illustrates the Grand Teton mountains, a male Western tanager, a moose, and wildflowers red Indian Paintbrush and blue Lupine, which are represented in the natural habitat of the northern Rockies.
The male Western tanager in the bottom photo is looking fluffy. Their bodies usually appear more slender.
