Notre Dame Magazine, summer 2011, sketches and final illustrations

I really enjoyed this assignment for Notre Dame Magazine.  The project was a full-page and a 1/3 page illustration for “The Way We Were” in the summer 2011 issue.

The first spot sketch had a young boy in a vignette holding a football.  It was changed to portray an older boy, as in the full-page illustrating the main character mowing the lawn in summer.

The vignette in the spot illo sketch was changed to two boys making a snow man.  Boys playing football on the Notre Dame campus with the landmark buildings are the background image.

Here is the final spot painting.

There was just one change to the full-page sketch before the final.  There is a cemetery in the block behind the house, which was portrayed more clearly in the final painting.
