A Shamrock Is Not A 4-Leaf Clover

It is that time of year again.  When I was a girl, Saint Patrick’s day was a holy day, not the commercial mess it has become in the USA.  In addition to the green beer and stereotypes of drunken hooligans, the four leaf clover images used instead of shamrocks are cropping up everywhere to sell anything that is plastic and green.  *Sigh*  Yes, it annoys me.

I agree Alice, it annoys me too! And I hate the kind of day it has become here too. The parade is a lovely experience, and a great time for kids, but it is what happens as they day roles on into night, and the drunken revellers take over, that bothers me.

I’m sorry the commercialism and drunken revelry has been exported over to Ireland. I recall seeing something on the news a few years back about how it has changed Saint Patrick’s day for you in Ireland, too.

This, as a person from Ireland who now lives in the US, annoys the crap out of me!!! And when you explain that a shamrock can only have 3 leaves because that’s the point, you come across as pedantic.
